Inside Info: Patrick Kelly

Patrick Kelly is not only the face-melting lead guitarist in the group but also assumes the role of delivering well-timed snappy comebacks and humor sure to provide a laugh for all that hear. You can usually tell by the other band members’ laughter when this is “going down!”

Hello, Patrick Kelly here.  I have been playing guitar for the better part of 30 years and bands in the area for the past 20, such as Drunken Intentions, Orem, Death of a Taxpayer, and of course, Simplicated!

I’ve been fortunate enough to have played a variety of music, both covers and original.  It would be hard to pin down a genre of music or artist that has influenced me the most, so I guess you could say I try to bring a mix of classic rock/blues/alt-country/jazz/ R&B and soul.

A myriad of artists has influenced my playing, such as: Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B King, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Band, Santana, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, Gram Parsons, The Jayhawks, Wilco, Van Morrison, Elvis (both Presley and Costello,) Buddy Holly, Wes Montgomery, Bruce Springsteen, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Radiohead, My Morning Jacket, The Allman Brothers.  I could go on and on, but I think the internet will run out of space!

Occasionally, you may find me behind the mic adding a few backing vocals, but for the most part, you’ll find me hanging back, cranking out some ham-fisted chords and the occasional meandering solo from my Stratocaster.

Influences and instruments aside, my biggest inspiration is my wonderful and supportive wife, Jessie.  As much as I enjoy strolling the stages, I love even more heading home to her and my 2 dogs: Ginger and Blossom; my cat, Barley, and our gecko named Geico!

Thank you to the members of Simplicated past and present: Zach, Maddy, Rob, Wayne, Ray, Dave, James, and Kelly.  You all have brought out the best in me!  And of course, thank you to all that have come to the shows and I hope to see you again soon!
